Impeccable styling.

Incomparable weaves and textile embellishments is the hallmark of India’s haute couture. Hand work such as kantha, kalamkai, block prints, zardosi, chikan, embroidery, chamki or metal are used And nobody meshes these crafts with texture, st yle and cut better than Sabyasachi, the wonder boy of Indian couture. Sabyasachi’s special collection, which draws from not only India, but the Russian circus and hand-painted teapots, was recently launched at Evoluzion (30 Khader Nawaz Khan Road, Nungambakkam).

Mixing folksy charm with sophisticated cut and impeccable styling, the collection celebrates bright colours, block prints and textures.

Saris, kurtas, lehngas and Indo-Westerns are rich with heavy zardosi and sequin embroidery and different block print florets all seen together in one or graded borders. The look enchants, whether it is an all-sequin studded Patiala salwar, kantha-embroidered kameezes with sequin-strewn georgette sleeves, anarkali kalidar kameezes teamed with rose embroidered churidars or printed georgette saris. The Bleached Collection on view at Collage (Anston Centre, 153, Greams Road) provides an ethereal and delicate contrast. Designers Vineet Behl from Mumbai exhibits a contemporary line of all-white tunics, kurtis, skirts and kurtas with a faintly romantic, even Victorian feel. Fine crochet and minimal embroidery, textured white on white tops and skirts with silk beads bring a touch of sheer elegance to Vineet’s collection.

Sham Narain of Delhi also goes with the delicate white on white textured and embroidered look. Benares summer crepes and georgette saris woven with delicate motifs and bordered with zardosi and sequins add a touch of glamour to the Sham Narain collection which also has brocade patchwork blouses.

Ashish Parikh’s kalamkari ensembles mix couture with traditional craft in snazzy salwar kurta outfits . Colourful yet summery, the hand block printed kalamkari blends perfectly with the flowing look of the kameez and salwar.
