This affair has no spice -- Thol(L)Laipaesi
Thol(L)Laipaesi
Genre: Romance
Director: K. Paneerselvam
Cast: Vikramadhithya, Priyanka, Aarthi, Divya, ‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi, Karunaas, Madanbob and Lavanya.
Storyline: A cell phone call lands this young man in deep trouble.
Bottomline: It fails to live up to expectation.
There are some prerequisites for a film centred on a playboy. A handsome hero, a bevy of beauties plus an interesting screenplay with twists and turns, not to mention a gripping climax.
Blue Waters Movie Makers ‘Thol(l)laipaesi’ has a good looking hero in Vikramadhithya. But other requirements have been conveniently forgotten.
Vedhachalam (Vikramadhithya) is a young man who leads his bachelor life having fun in the company of young women.
Vedhachalam is pressured by his father to marry Anitha (Priyanka).
He obliges his father but wants to continue being a playboy.
A mobile phone call exposes him and Anita moves back to her parents’ place.
Things get complicated for Vedhachalam when Arthi (Arthi), one of his friends wants to marry him. But he is now going steady with Reema (Divya).
Vikramaditya has done a neat job. Of the girls Priyanka emotes well.
Both Arthi and Reema must learn the ropes of acting and Reema, especially must pay more attention to her make-up.
‘Nizhalgal’ Ravi as the hero’s father Srinivasan is full of poise and dignity. Madanbob has a substantial role and he has used it well with his trade mark laughter. Karunaas as the best friend of the hero does not quite succeed in his role as comedian. Lavanya as his pair looks apt.
Only three of the five songs composed by S. Santhakumar pass muster.
D. Shankar’s camera has followed the director’s dictum in a positive way. K. Panneerselvam’s screenplay (he has also written the story, screenplay and direction) has loose ends, but he scores in dialogue.
Editor S. Sathish should have used his scissors mercilessly so that the film would have been more taut.
