On Location Director Vinayan’s ‘Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan?’ is set against the backdrop of the IT industry.

Intrigues in the IT world: Vinayan’s film ‘Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan?’ stars Indrajith, Jayasurya and Manikkuttan.

The stage has been set for a gala wedding and the opulence is evident. Expensively dressed guests alight from swanky cars and make their way to the hall. The camera, mounted on a crane, catches the action and then the director yells “Cut.R 21;

DD Retreat in Kochi is the location of director Vinayan’s latest film, ‘Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan?’ For Indrajith, Jayasurya and Manikkuttan, “it is just like coming back home to work with the director who virtually launched us,” they chorus. Jayasurya and Indrajith made their debut as hero and villain respectively in ‘Oomappenninu Uriyadappayyan’ while Manikkuttan emerged from the serial circuit to the big screen via ‘Boyyfriennd.’ Bhama, who made her debut in Lohitadas’ ‘Nivedyam,’ is the heroine. The cast includes Bala, Shirin, Jagathy Sreekumar and Ambika.

The outline

“With the developments in the IT sector, many youngsters of the current generation have started earning pretty big pay packets quite early in their lives. ‘Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan?’ narrates the story of a young businessman called Hareendran (Indrajith) who is running a software company,” narrates Vinayan.

The films deals with the problems he faces at a particular period in his life. An issue questions Hareendran’s professional and personal integrity.

“A software engineer Gopalakrishnan (GK) is played by Jayasurya and Manikuttan appears as ‘Stalin’ Alex, a hardcore leftist, who is Hareendran’s confidant. Indulekha, Bhama’s character, is an engineering student who is in love with Alex,” says Vinayan, who has written the script based on his son, Vishnu’s story.

At the location, the three heroes keenly watch the proceedings on the monitor. Indrajith says he is delighted to do the “title role.” He adds: “Hareendran is a youngster who has to face some tough times through no fault of his. Society indicts him without going into the real facts of the issue and it has a tremendous effect on him.”

Sharing screen space

Jayasurya, who seems to have been sharing the screen with other heroes in most of his recent films, says: “It is not the length of the character but the impact that he makes on the audience that matters. Take for instance my characters in ‘Classmates’ and ‘Arabikkatha.’ Both had shades of grey but were received well.”

Manikkuttan, who sports a beard and glasses says it is “to look the part of the idealistic engineering student who dares throw away a salaried job as it doesn’t go with his ideology. He then works as a journalist for a small time publication. He is just 21 but thinks and behaves like a 40-year-old.”

The next shot is a close-up of Bhama, who is dressed up as a bride. The affluent Indulekha falls for the ideologist Alex. ‘Hareendran Oru Nishkalankan?’ is produced by Satheesh Nair under the banner of Nandhikesh Films and will reach theatres this November. Still photographer is Soorya Peter. Music for the film has been composed by Bernie-Ignatius.
