Pink bird, red trees and more

Ritu Sangal’s nature and other paintings lured many, especially the younger ones.

“The whole idea behind making such paintings is to send out a message to the people to come out and see how beautiful the world is”

FLORID One of Ritu Sangal’s works.

She transports you to the fantasy world, the one where live the likes of Alice and Harry Potter. In that world, pink birds, yellow trees, blue leaves and brown sky co-exist peacefully. Where nature in its myriad hues, more out of one’s imaginat ion than anything close to reality, peeks in. Most of the sky or water animals are surrounded by their green habitat.

New style

Well, this world has become a reality in artist Ritu Sangal’s canvas. Ritu, who is known for breaking away from the traditional mode to create a new style of Tanjore paintings, was showing her works at New Delhi’s till this past week. With mixed media, water colours on glaze gold and enamels, Ritu came out with a world of nature speaking for the cause of the environment and global warming.

“The whole idea behind making such paintings is to send out a message to the people to come out and see how beautiful the world is,” says the artist. Her on-glaze paintings are done on ceramic tiles and hence many of them give the impression of birds and trees being pasted on these tiles. She used a lot of gold and semi-precious stones to beautify her highly stylised, fairy-tale type of creations.

Ritu earlier has worked on yogic symbols and that of various religions in her paintings.

These days, she is using the Tanjore language on silk and water colours.
