Marquee moves

After the hype…

Now that the dust has settled over the Deepavali releases and Om Shanti Om has been declared the clear winner, there’s also another film basking in the box office success. Saawariya’s loss has turned out to be Jab We Met’s gain. The Shahid-Kareena starrer was pulled out of a few theatres and the number of its shows were reduced to make way for Saawariya. But Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s magnum opus was met with lukewarm response and Jab We Met bounced back stronger, with more shows and greater collections.

Bidding adieu

Yash Raj Films hasn’t done too great this year, save for the true blue hit Chak De! India. They seems to be in a bit of trouble with some of their leading directors – Sanjay Gadhvi (Dhoom series) and Siddharth Raj Anand (Salaam Namaste and Tara Rum Pum) leaving the camp. Sanjay has already bid farewell to the camp and Siddharth, who is now filming a movie with Ranbir Kapoor and Deepika Padukone, is expected to move out and work with Sajid Nadiadwala.

The unusual pair

Mallika Sherawat and Nana Patekar! As different as chalk and cheese, the two come together for the forthcoming film Welcome, expected to release on December 20. Though the film also stars Akshay Kumar, Katrina Kaif, Anil Kapoor and Paresh Rawal and the television promos hold the promise of a comic film, it’s Mallika and Nana who steal the show. Their paring has raised the curiosity factor.

Hrithik makes his moves

Hrithik Roshan’s Jodha Akbar, directed by Ashutosh Gowarikar, will release in January. After this historical, Hrithik is choosing his new movies with care. The actor, who is keen to make his presence felt internationally, has been signed for a new project jointly produced by Eros International and Carving Dreams Motion Pictures. Carving Dreams has been managing Hrithik’s business profile including his endorsements and public appearances for the last two years.
