Stargazing

Mamooth Scale

Arjun is ready with his next story. A.Venkatesh is handling the screenplay, dialogue and direction for Arjun’s line — the film is ‘Durai.’ In keeping with the fad, an old hit — Ilaiyaraja’s ‘Raja Rajadhi Rajan …’ from the film, ‘Agni Nakshatram,’ — has been re-mixed by composer Imman. The song sequence was shot on an elaborate scale in Pollachi this past week. More than 500 junior artists were drawn from Kerala, Dindigul, Madurai and Chennai and taken to Pollachi for the purpose, and around 100 dancers have joined Arjun for the song, which has been choreographed by Dinesh.

Workouts pay off

Vijay Antony's compositions for the Nakul-Sunaina starrer, `Kadhalil Vizhundhaen,' are out. The glossy audio release invite made quite an impression. None can forget Nakul, the roly-poly brother of Devyani, who debuted in Shankar's `Boys.' But his transformation into hero material is incredible. He lost more than 20 kg after he began working in `Kadhalil .' And during the period of shoot he has shed a few kilos more. "His sweating it out at the gym has paid off richly. His re-launch vehicle has a solid storyline. It's about a young man given to delusions. He lives in an illusory world . I don't to reveal more," the unit hand stops midway with a smile.

Balancing act

The huge hoarding of Satyaraj on Anna Salai, Chennai, for his next release `Thangam,' draws your attention. Here is an actor who, of late, very ingeniously balances commercial films and niche fare. "If I had just kept waiting for impact-making parts it would have been a case of `out-ofsight- out-of mind.' It's only because I went along with formula films that directors now come to me with rewarding roles. So I'll never underestimate the commercial offers I get. Kicha, the director of `Thangam,' knows how to mix romance, action, comedy and sentiment in right proportions. It should work," says Satyaraj.

For native flavour

Generally when you think of another language film dubbed in Tamil, the dialogue writer who comes to mind is Marudhabharani. But the makers of `Kazhugu' (in Telugu) have decided differently. They have roped in L. Balamurugan, an associate with directors Saran and Hari, to pen the dialogue. Starring Nithin and Genelia the story has the game of rugby as the pivot. (Incidentally, the old `Kazhugu' had Rajinikanth playing hero.) Says Balamurugan: "To lend a Tamil touch to the film, we are including a new comedy track with Muthukalai, Karunas, and Venu Madhavan from Telugu. The shooting of these parts will begin soon. Rajadurai is assisting me in the comedy line."
