On the mark

With India’s economic strength becoming increasingly relevant on the world stage, BBC World has come up with India Business Report, a new half-hour programme every Sunday. Its objective is to present the varied facets of the Indian economy to viewers not just in South Asia, but across the world. Says Peter Eustace, editor, BBC World business programmes, “India has clearly surged ahead as a major player in the global economic landscape. Reports have predicted India to be the third largest economy by 2040. We are determined to keep our fingers on the pulse.”

Youth appeal

Keeping the focus on youth and fun going, SAB TV has introduced four new shows in the weekday slot at 8.30 pm. Called “Detective Doll”, “Full Masti 88.2”, “Gupshup Coffee Shop” and “Sirf Stories”. If business head Anooj Kapoor is to be believed this is the channel’s effort to consolidate its position as the mass youth entertainment channel. “Our research shows that youngsters are tired of watching daily soaps and want something new every day. “Detective Doll” is about a cute girl who solves youth centric cases. “Full Masti” is about six youngsters who run a radio station and “Sirf Stories” is an attempt to revive the short story genre where one episode deals with one emotion.”

What’s in a reason !

The organisers keep on creating categories to bring Amitabh Bachchan to the event. The latest to join the effort is Indian Television Academy. Since Bachchan is no longer hosting anything on small screen, at the ITA awards announced recently, he was awarded the ITA laurel for ultimate eminence in the world of entertainment, encompassing cinema, television and media. Let’s wait for the next!

Sweet success

After winning the judge’s choice award in “Amul Star Voice of India” Abhaas Joshi will now host “Chhote Ustaad”, the younger version of the show. Only 17, Abhaas has also been a runner-up in Master Madan Singing Competition (national level). He has recently recorded a song composed by Aadesh Srivastava for an untitled animation film. Abhaas says it’s his ability to enjoy a song that made him a candidate for the job. “I don’t know dance but I fully enjoy every song I sing. A trained singer, Abhaas says his ultimate desire is to sing for A.R. Rahman. “But I know it is difficult to create a niche as a playback singer because the likes of Sonu Nigam, Shaan and Kunal Ganjawala are in their prime form.”
