Festival at Tirumala

Thanneer Amudhu Festival, celebrated every year on the last day of Adhyana Utsavam, is scheduled to take place on January 2, 2008, at Tirumala. The festival is held to perpetuate the memory of Tirumala Nambi’s service to Lord Venkateswara and t he Lord’s mercy on him. On the occasion, a member of the Thozhappachery family of Thathacharyas will carry the sacred water of Akash Ganga in a pot, and go along with the deity of Lord Srinivasa, around the temple and the sanctum. Abhishekam will be performed at the feet of the Lord, to the chanting of Purusha Suktham.
