Info-quiz on fine arts

educative: Info-Quiz organised by Mudhra.

The Mega Info-quiz on music, dance, drama and cinema conducted by Mudhra as part of its fine arts festival had many enthusiastic rasikas who took part in it.

The preliminary session had 51 entries, out of which nine were chosen to participate in the final round.

The quiz was unique because it had three quiz masters who were also the resource persons, sharing a lot of supplementary information on the subjects.

Radha Bhaskar (music), Rajshri Vasudev (dance) and Gnani (theatre and cinema) had very interesting questions and the audio and video clippings, live demonstrations and striking anecdotes shared by them, added a lot of liveliness to the presentation.

Interesting segments

The music section had questions such as name the birth place of D.K.Pattammal, guru of Bombay Sisters, identifying jumbled names of ragas and instruments, voices of musicians in the audio clippings, corresponding Hindustani equivalents for Carnatic ragas etc.

In dance, identifying dancers and dance forms, various works on dance and other related information enlightened the audience.

The cinema and drama area aroused a lot of enthusiasm and the way Gnani narrated several facts related to the questions was truly an eye opener on many unknown areas of Tamil cinema.

A sample: A celebrity poet, in order to know people’s reaction, spread the word that he was dead. Many made a beeline to his house.

Among the first to show up was music director M.S.Viswanathan, who was also instrumental in erecting the statue of the writer Kannadasan (after his demise) at T.Nagar.

Another interesting question - who is the only Tamil actress who has acted with four Chief Ministers of Tamilnadu on stage and screen? to which many had the right answer - Manorama

The winners got gold and silver coins as prizes and also gift vouchers from leading stores in Chennai.

There were special segments and prizes for the audience as well.

As the chief guests for the quiz, Narayan Bhat and N.Balasubramaniam summed up, this quiz was not just about answering questions and winning prizes, it was more about sharing information and acquiring knowledge.
