A painter and a sculptor mount a joint show.

Painter Prasanna and sculptor Chandan mounted an exhibition of their works together at the Orissa Modern Art Gallery in Bhubaneswar this week.
For both the artists who grew up in rural Orissa villages, graduated from Orissa’s art colleges and had their masters from the Khairagarh University in neighbouring Chhattisgarh State, nostalgia has been thebuzz-word for this fortnight-long show.
Chandan Kumar Samal has been away from his home for long but what often appears in his dreams is the landscape of his beloved village - the orchids in particular. So, almost all of the 25 objects that he sculpted under the series entitled ‘Nature’ have been inspired by and modelled after those seasonal flowers. He has used the light blue soft sandstone of Nilgiri region of his district that has given a pastoral touch to his art. He has also skillfully experimented with bronze in sculpting one of his intricately designed artifacts. For Prasanna Kumar Sahoo, who has exhibited his works at a number of important events, his visit to Rajasthan has always inspired his creativity. "The havelis and the toys of Rajasthan vividly occupy my imagination,” says the graphic artist whose 43 works on display are paintings in acrylic on canvas.
His most attractive works have been a series titled ‘Darwan’ (gate keeper). Prasanna paints the puppets of Rajasthan set against the backdrop of the forts; thereby giving the works an ethnic touch. His visit to the picturesque Lonavala valley near Mumbai also makes another series titled ‘Nature’.
The show will be on view till January 20.
