Consecration at Sriskandasramam
It is consecration time at Om Sri Skandasramam, Selaiyur. Founded by Santhananda Swamigal, it enshrines deities including Kamala Siddhi Vinayakar, Panchamukha Heramba Ganapathy, Dattatreya, Panchamukha Hanuman, Saniswarar, Ayyapan, Ashtadasabhuja
Durga Parameswari, Lord Sarabeswara, Goddess Prathyankara, Goddess Bhuvaneshwari, Swaminathaswamy (Skanda) and Sri Chakra Poorna Maha Meru, all in magnificent stature. The additions — Sudarshanachakrathazhwar, Lakshmi Narasimhar, Sahasralingam (1008 lingams) and Sri Nandikeswarar — are going to be consecrated on January 20.
Sri Sudarshanar is a gigantic panchaloha idol with Sri Lakshmi Narasimhar on the other side. Sudharshana Homam was performed continuously for 108 days at the instance of Santhananda Swamigal in 2001-2002. Around this sannidhi are installed the images of Dasavatharam.
The Sahasralingam which has 1007 lingams carved in a huge gigantic lingam ( making a total of 1008 lingams) is being consecrated. This stone image stands about 300 cm in height. Plans for the future include installation of Nandikeswara.
Religious rituals begin at the Ashram (No. 1, Kambar St., Mahalakshmi Nagar, Selaiyur, Tambaram, Chennai-73, Ph: 22290134/22293388; website - www.skandasramam.org) on January 18 with Ganapati puja. The Mahakumbabhishekam will take place on January 20, at 9.30 a.m. Special abhishekam for the deities will be followed by annadhanam.
