‘Robot’ is mine

An open letter to actors Rajnikant and Shah Rukh Khan, filmmaker Shankar and music director A.R. Rahman

Reel confusion? Well-known Tamil director Shankar has announced a movie with the title, “Robot” which is likely to feature the two stalwarts, Shah Rukh Khan and Rajnikant.

As a fellow filmmaker, while I wish you all every success in thecelluloid world, I have an appeal regarding the recent announcement of your Rs.100 crore film, “Robot”.

Being in the field, I am sure you realise how dear a film is to its creator, like a child to the parents, and this umbilical cord bonding is inseparable particularly when the film is an autobiographical one. I wish to point out that “Robot” is my autobiographical film.Premiered in 1996, “Robot” is a futuristic film inspired by Elvis Presley’s love song, ‘Wooden Heart’. The central theme of the film is that the destiny of humanity is the inevitable doom’s day, and the future of mankind is in transformation of roles where humans become robots and robots turn into human beings. It is depicted through a passionate love affair between the film’s debutante leading lady, Mekhla Matto and a robot. The film has over 300 computer graphics to achieve the desired result on celluloid. “Robot” ends with the message that humans should not use each other like robots.

With a lot of auto-biographical elements in it, I am naturally very passionate about “Robot” which shall eternally remain a priceless art possession for me. Hence, I appeal to you all to please allow me the exclusive use of the title, “Robot” originally listed in my favour with Indian Motion Pictures Producers Association. It is currently listed with Shah Rukh Khan and I am in the waiting list. This is because I had a severe attack of osteoporosis, which restricted my movements and I couldn’t re-register the title with IMPPA. To reach out to you busy celebrities, media seems my best recourse.
