Basking in glory
It is rare that a big star will be able to know the reaction of his fans on the day his films releases. But Darshan was lucky enough to get such an opportunity thanks to a programme organised by a Kannada channel. On the day “Gaja” released, action hero Darshan was able to interact with many of his fans in various parts of Karnataka and he was quite happy and excited to get a positive reaction about the film.
After a long time “Gaja” has taken a fantastic opening throughout the state only to confirm that the actor enjoys a huge popularity among the masses. “We can talk and talk about our films. And whatever we speak about our film during the pre-release press meets or channel interviews will be meaningless if the people do not accept the film.
Our efforts have to be necessarily recognized by the people who watch our film. And I have always felt that is the sole parameter to determine the value of the film. That is why I am so happy that Gaja has been liked by fans who are seeing it again and again. The efforts of the entire team has been vindicated through the huge response the film has obtained in the first five day’s of the film’s release,” says Darshan.
Neck to neck
It is now a Gaalipata vs Honganasu situation. Call it a sheer coincidence or conspiracy of circumstances, the lack of good exhibition opportunities has forced the two big Kannada films to release simultaneously today. “Gaalipata” director Yogaraj Bhat and “Honganasu” director Rathnaja are considered as architects of the rejuvenation of Kannada cinema. Rathnaja did it with “Nenapirali” and later Yograj Bhat came out with a big blockbuster film like “Mungaaru Maley” which changed the course of the Kannada film industry. “Gaalipata” is certain to have a huge opening. And Harikrishna’s music in “Gaalipata” has topped the charts. Rathnavelu’s spectacular photography has been much talked about in the film.
The expectations around “Honganasu” may look pale in comparison to the big hype for “Gaalipata”. But Rathnaja feels that this factor is bound to have its own advantages. Hamsalekha is the music director of “Honganasu” and the songs shot in Kerala are believed to be fantastic.
Kannada film fans can only wish success for both these films directed by two young talented directors who have created their own brand in the industry.
Mahi’s foray
“Don’t judge each day by the harvest you reap, but by the seeds you plant.”
“This quote by Robert Louis Stevenson more or less sums up my life,” says actress Mahi who has been introduced to Kannada films with the film “Ganga Kaveri’, directed by Vishnukanth. Mahi says she was determined to become an actress from an early age and was blessed with acting opportunities after she did some modelling assignments. She got her first break in the Telugu film “Tapana’. Then she was selected for Malayalam film “Aparichithan” which had Mammootty in the lead.
She plays an important role in “Ganga Kaveri” being teamed up with debutant actor Arjun. “Kannada industry gave me an opportunity to work opposite Arjun in “Ganga Kaveri”. My heart is filled with warmth by the way I was treated by the unit,” says Mahi, who has to work in one more song of the film.
A Kannada promise
Pooja Gandhi is determined to dub for her next Kannada film and is on her way to speak Kannada language fluently. While many Kannada heroines prefer to speak only in English in the media interactions, this Punjabi girl is making every effort to speak only in Kannada. An emotional Pooja Gandhi speaking in the audio release function of her film “Kodagaana Koli Nungiththaa”. “I know it has been difficult for me to talk only in Kannada, but I will definitely make efforts in that direction. The Kannada film industry has given me fame, name which I had not expected. And people here have even welcomed my sister Radhika Gandhi who is doing a Kannada film now. I will definitely dub for the Kannada films in future and only want some encouragement from producers and directors,” says Pooja Gandhi.
