Soothing veena recital

Kanakadurga Prasad attributes his success in medicine to his music.

Bhamidipati Kanakadurga Prasad

The Chamber of Music featured a veena recital by Dr. Bhamidipati Kanakadurga Prasad in the company of Mangalagiri Sridhar on mridangam. Prasad, a postgraduate (Radio Diagnosis – 2001 after MBBS), was with NIMHANS and NIMS before getting into the present assignment, as that of assistant professor, MIMS, Nellimarla. Three of his CT scan case reports attracted publication in medical journals of high repute like the IJRI. He proudly attributes all these achievements in medical profession to the fact that his first love has been veena music from a tender age which makes him strictly adhere to the daily routine of discerning sadhana of the same even now. The attribution got amply testified when he rendered a sensible selection on the most ancient instrument exploiting all its intrinsic nuances to the hilt. He made its exposition including the component of expression of Manodharma evolve the well established classical diction of exposition of carnatic music.

Natakuranjivarnam, Siddhivinayakam (Mohana Kalyani) and Kaalaharanamela (Suddasaveri) with swaram, Aadamodigalada (Chaarukesi) with a prelude of brief but beautiful aalapana, Manavi Aalakincharadate (Nalinikanthi), Bhajare Re Manasa (Abheri also called Karnataka Devagandhari or simply Devagandharam as proposed by Dixitar) prefixed with elaborate aalapana, expansive expatiation of Pankajalochana (Kalyani) and Inthasoukhyamani (Kapi also adorned with tanam in Raagamalika in the Ghanaragapanchakam with Naata, Goula, Aarabhi, Varali and Sri) interspersed with Ninuvina (Navarasakannada) comprised the selection for the evening. Sridhar not only lent invigorating support but also executed a knowledgeable thani on mridangam.
