Trauma centres along major road links
New Delhi (PTI): The Government on Thursday decided to set up an integrated network of trauma centres along the major road-links to help accident victims get competent medical care in shortest possible time.
The centres would be set up by upgrading the trauma care facilities in 140 identified state government hospitals along the golden quadrilateral, north-south and east-west corridors of the National Highways.
The Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs gave its approval to the upgradation of 20 state government hospitals to level I trauma centres, 40 to level II trauma centres and 80 to level III trauma centres at a total cost of Rs 372.75 crore during the 11th five-year plan, Union Finance Minister P Chidambaram told reporters.
"Setting up of the integrated network of trauma centres along the highways will ensure that each accident victim on these corridors is able to get competent medical assistance within the shortest possible time thereby saving precious lives," he said.
