Kochi (PTI): Cardinal Mar Varkey Vithayathil from Kerala, who is in the Vatican to participate in the canonisation ceremony of Sister Alphonsa, was admitted to a hospital following cardiac problem.

The Cardinal, who left for the Vatican on Oct 4, attended a few meetings soon after reaching there. He complained of severe back pain and was taken to hospital, church sources here said. He has been diagnosed with cardiac problem and advised complete rest.

The cardinal could not participate in the canonisation ceremony on Sunday.
