Chennai, (PTI): The Ajmer Dargah Committee has requested the Centre to establish an airport at Ajmer in Rajasthan for the benefit of pilgrims visiting the famous shrine of sufi saint, Khwaja Moinuddin Chisti and the temple town of Pushkar.
Committee president and Prince of Arcot, Mohammed Abdul Ali, said in a statement here that he had written to Civil Aviation Minister, Praful Patel, following an unanimous resolution adopted by the committee recently in this regard. He said the Dargah attracts millions from various sects and religions across the globe throughout the year, particularly during 'urs', falling in the Islamic month of 'Rajab.'The pilgrim town Pushkar, just 14 km away from Ajmer, is one of the most revered places of Hindus and referred to as 'Tirth Raj,' he added.Despite the fact that the two places were the major spiritual and tourist attractions, there was no air connectivity, he said and urged the Ministry to consider the airport project on a priority basis.
