Indian businesses to drive economic growth

Mumbai (PTI): Finance Minister P Chidambaram on Friday said Indian businesses would continue to drive the economic growth.

He also said small and medium enterprises have shown growth for the last seven years.

"Small and medium enterprises have shown growth for the last seven years" and "businesses would continue to be the engine of growth", he said at Indian Merchant Chambers' 100th year celebration function here.

"You would do better than what you did last year. And we will collect more taxes," he added.

Chidambaram referred to the industry concerns such as high interest rate, shrinking export market and falling consumption as "blips".

"These crises will not be the same. Shrinking markets will rebound, inflation would come down and interest rate would come down," he said, but added "there will be blips".

The Minister said the savings rate was rising and there is opportunity for investors to raise money from the market.
