Colombo, March 5 (PTI): Sri Lanka's first internet service-provider, Lanka Internet Services, has gone bankrupt and the company management has disappeared without a trace, officials said on Sunday.

The company stopped providing service on Friday.

The company had been facing stiff competition from over two dozen other internet service-providers since the company first launched internet services in 1994.

The total number of internet connections in Sri Lanka is estimated at 1,30,000.
