40 killed in bus accident in Uganda

Kampala (Uganda) (AP): A senior police officer in Uganda says a bus overturned, killing 40 passengers, including four children.

Many of the passengers burned to death when the bus caught fire at Kingo, 209 km west of the capital, Kampala yesterday, says Steven Tanuyi, police chief of Masaka District, where Kingo is located.

Tanuyi says only 10 people escaped the burning bus, and they sustained severe injuries. The wounded were rushed to Masaka Hospital, he says.

The accident happened when the bus driver tried to overtake a trailer, Tanuyi says.
