Regional PMK's plea to Information and Broadcasting Ministry
Puducherry, March 7 (PTI): The PMK has urged the Information and Broadcasting Ministry to set up an FM studio of Puducherry station of All India Radio in Mahe region, an enclave of the Union Territory in Kerala.
The party's Parliamentary party leader, M Ramadoss, has written a letter to the Information and Broadcasting Minister P R Dasmunsi in this regard.
A copy of the letter was distributed to reporters here.
In the letter, Ramadoss has said several welfare schemes of the central and puducherry governments were implemented in the union territory.Developmental schemes were also in force. But there was no proper dissemination about information of schemes in the outlying region of Mahe, he claimed.
He said Mahe is being served by Kannur and the schemes and announcements made through FM facility project most of the Kerala-specific programmes only. The day-to-day development of Mahe is not included in the broadcast now available from Kannur,he said.
Mahe is 800 km from Puducherry and its access to the programmes of Puducherry air station presently was a difficulty. Hence,a separate FM studio could be created which would relay the programmes in Mahe making use of the AIR station of Puducherry, he said in his letter.
