Tamil Media workshop on agri-biotechnology
Coimbatore, April 12. (PTI): Tamil Nadu Agricultural University (TNAU), jointly with the Ministry of Environment and Forest and International Service for the Acquisition of Agri-biotech Applications, is organising a 'Tamil Media Workshop on Agricultural Biotechnology' here from April 16.
The two-day workshop is exclusively for the benefit of the science and agricultural reporters and journalists from the print and electronic media in Tamil Nadu, TNAU Vice-Chancellor Dr C Ramasamy said in a release here.
The primary objective of the workshop is to unfold the basic scientific principles of biotechnology, current status and future prospects of agricultural biotechnology, regulation related to safety assessment and risk management, socio-economic environmental aspects and the role of media, he said.
The ultimate aim is to strengthen the scientific understanding of the journalists, which would help them while reporting issues related to this area.
Saying that the important feature of the workshop would be that it is being held for the first time in local language, Ramasamy said the lectures would delivered by experts mostly in Tamil with a lot of time for interaction.
The content of the workshop would be 'The science of Biotechnology' and 'Role of the Government and the regulatory framework.'
