PMK demand unjustified, says CPI
Chennai (PTI): The CPI on Thursday described the PMK's demand for a Rajya Sabha seat from Tamil Nadu as "unjustified" and said every party in an alliance should avail of opportunities in rotation.
CPI state Secretary D Pandiyan told a press conference here that the PMK had already been allotted a Rajya Sabha seat in 2004. "In an alliance, partners should avail of opportunities in rotation. Nobody should try to monopolise," he said.
He also said that the allocation of a Rajya Sabha seat to the CPI(M) by the DMK was justified as that party had been demanding it for long.
Describing the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu as "far from satisfactory", he alleged that there has been an increase in the activities of anti-social elements and that the police were ineffective in curbing them.
The CPI youth cadre, he said, would be trained to protect themselves from the "atrocities" of anti-social elements.
