Dhubri (PTI): Police blank fired to control a mob that assaulted police personnel, including an officer, for taking action on three unruly youths in lower Assam's Dhubri district on Sunday.

None was injured in the firing, police said.

Trouble began when three youths in a motor-cycle attempted to forcibly enter the civil hospital in Dhubri town and were stopped by the in-charge of the police outpost in the hospital compound.

Finding their movements suspicious, the police inspector-in-charge Manik Ali Ahmed seized the motor-cycle along with its key, the police said.

At this one of the youths, Rockybul Islam, using his cell phone rang up his brother Yahya Khan, who immediately arrived there with about 15 people and attacked the police personnel.

In self-defence, the police blank fired two rounds and arrested the two brothers.

The two others with Rockybul were identified, the police said.
