Spicejet aircraft lands under emergency conditions

New Delhi (PTI): A Jammu-bound SpiceJet plane, with 157 passengers and crew members onboard, had to land under emergency conditions on Thursday at the IGI airport in New Delhi after debris of tyres were found on the runway.

SpiceJet aircraft (SG 851), which took off from the airport in New Delhi at around 9.45 am on Thursday morning, had to return to Delhi after the pilot was informed by the Air Traffic Control about the debris of tyres on the runway soon after its take off, a spokesperson of the airlines said.

"After ATC's request to return back to IGI airport, the plane landed safely at 11.30 am. All the passengers and crew members were safe," he said.

The pilot was asked to do a low fly-past parallel to the runway for a manual inspection but no fault was found, sources said.

However, the pilot was asked to burn the fuel as a precautionary measure before landing.

On inspection, it was found that the debris of tyres did not belong to the SpiceJet aircraft.

Later, the aircraft was refueled and allowed to fly for its destination.
