Dinhata firing panel to hear testimonies in Feb
Cooch Behar (PTI): The inquiry panel into the police firing incident at Dinhata in Coochbehar district will conduct the hearing in February.
The panel, headed by Justice Narayan C. Sil, will hear the account of witnesses and officials for three days from February 14 in the Circuit House here.
In another development, Forward Bloc leader Udayan Guha appeared before the commision today and prayed for allowing him appearance in Kolkata, Justice Sil said.
"We have to find out if this can be made possible," the judge said.
Guha urged Chairman of the Commission that bullet marks on the walls in the vicinity of the firing incident be preserved for examination.
"As there is an FIR lodged against me, I like to appear before the Commission in Kolkata because I like to take legal help from my lawyer Mr Sekhar Basu there," the FB leader said.
Referring to the Dinhata incident on February eight, 2008, Guha said it was a statewide agitation and police acted in haste. He said three types of bullets, generally used by paramilitary forces, were collected from spot and this should be examined by ballistic experts.
