TN govt doctors withdraw strike call

Chennai (PTI): Tamilnadu Government Doctors' Association on Sunday night withdrew its one-day strike called for Monday to press their demand for salary on par with central government doctors following talks with the state government.

After several rounds of talks with the Health Minister, Health Secretary and Finance Secretary, the government agreed to set up a committee headed by Special Finance Secretary to go into their demands, the association said in a release here.

The committee would be asked to submit its report before July 31 and follow up action taken before August 31, it said.

In view of this, the association's action committee recommended withdrawal of the proposed strike and all other agitations, the release said.

The association had resolved to go on strike tomorrow demanding hike in the salary and also to express solidarity with the striking medicos who are demanding higher stipend.
