Rupee down by 6 paise against US dollar in early trade

Mumbai (PTI): The Indian rupee today depreciated by 6 paise against the US dollar in early trade on increased demand for the American currency from importers.

Dollar's gains against other currencies too put pressure on the Indian unit.

At the Interbank Foreign Exchange (forex) market, rupee was quoted at weak 47.93 a dollar, lower by 6 paise form its previous close. The rupee closed at 47.89 against the US currency on Friday.

Forex dealers said increased demand for dollar from importers ahead of Budget 2009-10 to be presented later in the day and dollar's firmness against other currencies mainly put pressure on the rupee.
