Tait recalled for 'A' series against Pakistan
MELBOURNE (AP): Paceman Shaun Tait was selected for the Australia A team's series against Pakistan A on Monday, three weeks after he was dropped from Cricket Australia's list of contracted players.
The second-string lineups will play two four-day matches at Townsville, in the north of Queensland state, and three limited-overs matches and a Twenty20 match at Brisbane.
The injury-prone Tait, who helped Australia win the 2007 World Cup, said CA's decision not to award him a central contract was a ``kick in the teeth,'' particularly after he'd been refused permission to play for his club in the Indian Premier League because of fitness concerns.
He was selected in the 'A' squad subject to fitness. The Australia squad will be led by Victorian allrounder Cameron White, a regular in Australia's top limited-overs lineup.
``The selection recognizes the performances of these young talented players in the domestic season last year whilst concentrating on those players we have identified as having the ability to play a significant role in the development of Australian cricket in the future,'' chief selector Andrew Hilditch said.
Tait is among three players who will join the squad after the four-day matches.
``Our focus on the one-day matches is to take the opportunity to look at players with a view to our preparation for the 2011 ICC World Cup in the subcontinent.'' Hilditch said.
Tait was a surprise omission from the list of 25 contracted players for 2009/2010 announced in the middle of last month by Cricket Australia. He was among five players who did not have contracts renewed.
The top Australian squad left last week for the Twenty20 World Cup starting in England later this week and the subsequent five-test Ashes series starting July 8 at Cardiff.
