'Beauty lies in the eye of the beholder'
London (PTI): Big muscles, six-pack abs, hourglass figures are hardly what your partner looks for in you, while you may rue not having them.
In fact, you are the most gorgeous thing for your mate, a study has said.
Scientists have said that most of us believe our partners are far better looking than they actually are.
In a study by researchers at Groningen University in the Netherlands, 93 couples were asked to rate their own and their partners' attractiveness.
The results found that the scores men gave to their girlfriends and wives were much higher than the scores the women gave to themselves, the 'Daily Mail' reported.
The story was similar at women's end. They rated their husbands and boyfriends as much better looking than the men regarded themselves.
The couples had been together for an average of 14 years and were typically in their late 30s.
The conclusion drawn by researchers was the volunteers were more self-critical than they needed to be.
"This assumption is consistent with a broader line of research that shows that individuals tend to overestimate the extent to which members of the opposite sex value certain physical attributes," they were quoted as saying.
