Chennai: A documentary on Ramanathapuram "Ramnad" Krishnan, the carnatic musician whose works hold a magnetic charm decades after they were rendered, will be released in Chennai on December 22 at the Residency Towers, T.Nagar at 10.30 a.m.

A Swathi Soft Solutions DVD format production by director S.B.Khanthan, the documentary on the "Musicians' Musician" skilfully uses stills, music and photo visuals of Ramnad Krishnan, overcoming the problem of finding moving visuals in the era before video became popular.

Khanthan's film has used tasteful visuals, interviews with associates and kin of Krishnan, his recordings and lucid narrative to trace the musicians's life work. Several musicians of the present day have paid tribute.

These include Umayalpuram Sivaraman, Lalgudi G.Jayaraman and Lalgudi Vijayalakshmi, N. Ramani, P.S.Narayanaswamy, Rukmani Ramani, Hariharan, N. Ravi Kiran, Nityasree Mahadevan, S.Sowmya and Ramanathapuram Raghavan.

Director Khanthan, who has a large body of work including a feature film, documentaries, children's films, ad films and stage plays, has brought good story-telling skills to the project, expanding the scope of music and culture documentaries.

The documentary has been created by Ramnad Krishnan's eldest son, R.K.Ramanathan, illustrated by Maa Se, anchored by R.Venugopal and videographed by Siva C.Naveen with visual effects by V.Krishnan Kumar.
