Bhojpuri superstar Kishan to move court against Bihar ban

Mumbai (PTI): Bhojpuri superstar Ravi Kishan on Thursday said he would move the court for revoking the ban imposed on him by the Bihar and Jharkhand Motion Picture Producers Association (BJMPPA) and also file a defamation suit.

"The sudden ban on me without even issuing a notice seeking an explanation is against the democratic ethos of the country," he said.

"No actor has been ever banned in this country and I will seek judicial recourse to not only get the ban revoked but also file for defamation as they have maligned my honour," Kishan told PTI here.

On Monday, the producers' body decided in Patna that the actor's films will not be allowed to be released in Bihar and Jharkhand.

The association had taken a strong objection to Kishan supporting veteran actor Mithun Chakraborty, who after a payment dispute with a Bihar-based producer, decided not to act in any Bhojpuri films in the state or Jharkhand.

"This led to the association banning Mithun Chakraborty. I had said such a step was wrong as he was a National Award winning actor, recognised all over the country. Instead an amicable solution should be found towards the problem," he said.

According to the actor, this statement was interpreted out of context and in a pre-planned manner, they began maligning his reputation.

With the ban on Kishan, the regional film industry is likely to suffer a loss of at least Rs 150 crore as about 25 films of the actor are either under production or set for release.
