    `Ore Kadal', `Thaniye' share critics award for best film

    Thiruvananthapuram (PTI): `Ore Kadal' directed by Shyamaprasad and `Thaniye' by debutant director Babu Tiruvalla shared the honour for best film in the Critics Awards announced here on Thursday.

    Producers of the films would get Rs 50,000 each and the directors Rs 25,000. `Nivedyam' directed by Lohitadas was chosen the second best film.

    Shyamaprasad was adjudged best director.

    Mohanlal was named the best actor for his performance in `Paradesi' while Lakshmi Gopalaswamy's roles in `Paradesi' and `Thaniye' fetched her the best actress award.

    Renowned director Adoor Gopalakrishnan would be conferred with `Chalachitra Rathnam' award for his contribution to cinema. The award comprises Rs 30,000 cash and citation.

    Other awardees: Nedumudi Venu (second best actor/Thaniye) Parvathi (second best actress/Flash), Sreenivasan (special award for acting and best script-screenplay/Katha Parayumbol), Vijayan (lyrics), M Jayachandran (music direction).

    Vijay Yesudas (male playback singer), Swetha Mohan (female playback singer), Azhagappan (cinematography), P C Mohanan (editing), Kalavoor Ravikumar (director, best children's film), Bhama (best debut actor), M Mohanan, Sreelal Devaraj (debut directors).

    The awards, instituted by Kerala Film Critics Association were announced at a press conference here today.
