Films with unsuitable Tamil titles not to get tax exemption

Chennai (PTI): Tamil Nadu Government on Tuesday announced that it would not extend the tax concessions being granted for films with Tamil titles, to those named unsuitably in the vernacular.

The state government had earlier announced full exemption of entertainment tax to films which had Tamil titles to encourage the industry as well as to promote Tamil language.

But, the true purpose behind the announcement has not been served as the Tamil language was being "butchered" in the name of film titles during recent times, an official release said here. Producers of such films also demand tax concession, it said.

The concession would be strictly not extended to films which had unsuitable titles in Tamil, it added.
