Sub-group constituted to contain film piracy
New Delhi (PTI): A sub-group consisting of one representative each from eight state governments has been constituted to explore the possible ways of containing film piracy, Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday.
"The sub-group would also look at ways to reduce the rate of entertainment tax, Minister for Information and Broadcasting P R Dasmunsi said in a reply, adding the group has started deliberating the issue.
The I&B ministry has requested chief secretaries of all states to advise District Magistrates and Superintendents of Police to include anti-piracy measures in their monthly activity reports, he said.
The ministry, Dasmunsi said is also examining the draft optical disc law prepared by FICCI, which would help in countering possible ways of privacy in the entertainment sector. FICCI has prepared the draft law on the ministry's request.
The Cable Television Network Regulation Act has also been amended in 2000 to prohibit cable operators from transmitting or re-transmitting any programme or channel, for which the copyright holder has not granted him license.
