    'Second phase to celebrate Tamil spirit more'

    Chennai (PTI): With a view to strengthening its Station Positioning as `the' radio station with Tamil flavour, the AdLabs owned Big 92.7 FM will go ahead with its second phase of "Tamizhanin Perumai," a celebration of Tamils and Tamilian spirits.

    While the first phase kicked off with a tribute to Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi for his profound knowledege of the language, the second phase aims to celebrate the Tamil spirit more, and by involving more achievers from the state, said P B Ramaswamy, Station Head, Big 92.7 FM, Chennai.

    "The Station Positioning effort aims to make realise the listeners that when it comes to celebrating Tamil, it is Big 92.7 FM. We hope to tap the emotional value of the language and the attachment people have to it," he said.

    "As many as 90 percent of listeners of radio in Chennai prefer to listen only Tamil songs and that goes to show the importance we place for the language," he said.

    This was a unique effort from the multi-city broadcaster, which the Chennai station alone boasting 100 percent local language content, he added.

    This effort had also resulted in pushing its way up the ladder of popularity, he claimed when he said that more calls were now being recieved by the radio jockeys, and "the shows getting more interactive,"

    While actors Sathyaraj and Parthiban, businessmen H Vasantha Kumar MLA, MD, Vasanth and Co and CK Ranganathan, MD, Cavin Kare Ltd. had been interviewed in the first phase, the latest series promises a good feast, with some of the lesser-known achievers like the recently crowned World Carom Champion from Chennai, I Ilavazhagi, all set to talk on air.
