Film, Television Producers Guild award nomination announced

Mumbai (PTI): Nominations for the fifth Film and Television Producers Guild awards were announced on Friday with last year's hits like 'Chak De India', 'Jab We Met' and 'Guru' vying for the top film category.

The awards divided into two groups - popular and technical categories - will be given at a ceremony on March 30.

Guild President and UTV Chairman Ronnie Screwvala said, "These are awards by the fraternity, for the fraternity wherein the industry evaluates itself."

Nomination committee chairman Manmohan Shetty said the group goes through all the films released during the year and then selects five nominations in each category like best actor, actress, lyricist, editor, cinematography.

"We send reels of the selected movies to all the guild members following which every member votes confidentially. The votes are sent to PriceWaterhouseCoopers which announces the category-wise winners on the day of awards," he said.

Shah Rukh Khan (Chak De), Shahid Kapur (Jab we Met), Amitabh Bachchan (Cheeni Kum) and his son Abhishek (Guru) are competing for the best actor's award while his daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai (Guru), Kareena Kapoor (Jab We Met) and Shilpa Shetty (Life in a Metro) are in contention for best actress.

Meanwhile, actor Vidya Balan on Friday unveiled the trophy 'Apsara' to be presented to the winners at a function.
