Entertainment body to seek more powers from Centre
Panaji (PTI): The Entertainment Society of Goa (ESG) has sought more powers from the Centre to organise the International Film Festival of India.
A delegation led by Goa Chief Minister Digamber Kamat, who heads the ESG that organises IFFI, will soon visit Delhi in this regard.
"We will put across our viewpoint to the Information and Broadcasting Ministry seeking more participation in the festival organisation," Goa Chief Secretary J P Singh said today.
The move comes after the Directorate of Film Festivals rejected Goa government's MoU draft (to be signed with the former) last week seeking more powers for the state-run ESG.
According to Goa, since it bears most of the financial burden, it should have more rights over the annual film fest. It is also contemplating the possibility of taking over the festival completely.
The IFFI was shifted to Goa from Delhi in 2004 during Manohar Parrikar's tenure as Chief Minister.
