Govt. hikes MEP of non-basmati rice to $ 1,000 a tonne

New Delhi (PTI): The government on Thursday hiked the minimum export price of non-basmati rice to 1,000 dollars per tonne from 650 dollars a tonne, a move aimed at curbing the rising prices of the foodgrain in the domestic market.

According to the notification issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, export of non-basmati rice would be allowed if the minimum export price (MEP) is 1,000 dollar or Rs 40,000 per tonne (FOB).

However, the MEP for Russia has been fixed at 1,100 dollars or Rs 44,000 per tonne (FOB).

The notification has come a week after the government allowed imports of rice at zero duty.
