Rlys. presents highest-ever annual plan of Rs. 37,500 cr.
New Delhi (PTI): Armed with a cash surplus of over Rs 25,000 crore, Railway Minister Lalu Prasad today unveiled highest-ever annual investment plan of Rs 37,500 crore during 2008-09.
"Under this plan, priority has been given to enhancement of rail capacity, modernisation of the railway, throughput enhancement on high capacity routes, traffic facility works and expansion and development of the network," Prasad said while presenting the government's last full Railway Budget.
The ministry is expecting to receive budgetary support of Rs 7,874 crore, including Rs 774 crore under the Central Road Fund, he said.
Additional funds to the tune of Rs 1,712 crore have been sought from the Finance Ministry for national projects of Udhampur-Srinagar-Baramulla, Jiribam-Imphal Road, Dimapur-Kohima, Azra-Byrnihat and Kumarghat-Agartala new lines among others.
