A `star struck' show
Proficient quiz master.
IT WAS quiz time at the Mani's school hall. The hall was jam-packed. The onlookers were standing beside the long rows of seats eagerly awaiting the entry of the star. There were some outside the auditorium peeping through the half open windows trying to get a better look.
``Rota? Quest'', jointly organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis and the Quiz Foundation kicked off with three teams from local, two from Udumalpet and one from Amaravathi Nagar. The teams competed with each other to win prizes worth Rs. 10,000.
Looked like they were all prepared to pour out their answers for all the questions that were targeted to them. It was a multimedia show. There were six rounds: Science and Technology, Sports, Wildlife, Mixed Bag, Performance Art and the "sensational'' Star Struck round.
The Quiz Master, Shilesh Bansali from the Quiz Foundation was doing a commendable job for the first five rounds. The questions were posed in form of slides, and were projected on the giant screen onstage.
The rules were as usual, but the presentations, "different''. Background audio tracks accompanied the slides. For the wildlife round we could hear birds chirping, the tiger roaring, chattering of the monkeys and so on... The audio systems were so effective and real that the `roar' immediately diverted the attention of the tiny-tots in the auditorium who were busy with their pranks.
Scoring: Answer your direct question and score ten, answer a passed question and score five. The high-spirited audience were equally geared up and were finding it difficult to keep themselves composed especially when they were aware of the answers.
There were times when they blurted out the answers in excitement. Sri Krishna Sweets, the sponsors of the event, gave sweets to the audience, be it for a passed question or for their direct question. The children seated in the first row were running around the hall dispersing the sweets to the ones who had got the answers right.
Greeting the students.
It was about half past six when the "Supreme Star'' Sarath Kumar made his entry. He greeted the crowd with his folded hands and a dimpled smile. There was a thundering applause from the audience when he came in.
Dressed in a brilliant white shirt, a pitch-black pant and a glossy pair of boots he sat down in the front row with the Rotarians. Then came the "Star Struck'' round and the star was called on the stage to take up the Quiz Master's stand.
`` Hello'', he said shaking hands with the teams and also wished them all the best. Warm greetings it was. The first question was on sports where we got to see Gary Sobers congratulating Brian Lara on breaking a record in Cricket.
We found Sarath to be an all rounder... he seemed to be well versed in many fields, be it sports, music or films, for he could provide the teams with more clues facilitating them to get their answers right. Another slide was a clipping from his movie. "Well.. This guy looks familiar to me'', he says hilariously, looking at his own picture on the screen.
``A perfect Quiz master'' we could call him! But, all that we missed was "Nanga ready, neenga readya?''.
