Wiser the veggie way

For PeTA, this is the fifth of its campaign events, where the NGO used the services of a celebrity for its crusade against cruel treatment of animals and also propagating the cause of vegetarianism.

Maddy doesn't like to be caged.
MADDY, (YES, of Alaipayudhe fame), has taken a new role this time. He is campaigning for vegetarianism.
What is the secret of his `perfect' physique?
Vegetarian diet pat came the reply from the star.
After a busy schedule outside the city, the actor rushed to the city for the photo shoot organised by the US-based animal welfare organisation, People for ethical Treatment of Animals (PeTA).
For PeTA, this is the fifth of its campaign events, where the NGO used the services of a celebrity for its crusade against cruel treatment of animals and also propagating the cause of vegetarianism.
The photo-shoot session went on for more than an hour and the ace-photographer Atul Kasbekar was shooting the star who was inside an enclosure. (For those who are not familiar with Atul Kasbekar, he was the one who worked with the master-blaster, Sachin Tendulkar in the Pepsi, Visa Power and the latest Fiat Palio ads.)
``I have always been a vegetarian and I hail from a vegetarian family background. Many people presume that the animals feel no pain, when cruelly treated. It is not so. This is one of the reasons for our forefathers to adopt vegetarianism as their staple diet'', says Madhavan with a serious look.
Well, what about the film roles, wherein he has to wear a leather jacket or forced to eat non-vegetarian food?
``Yes, while acting in movies I have been forced to wear leather products or compelled to eat non-vegetarian food. But generally I am a vegetarian. Basically my wife was a non- vegetarian eater. I was able to make her switch over to vegetarianism by explaining the cruelties meted out to the birds, animals and cattle'', he says proudly.
For PeTA, it is almost two years since they started looking for a South Indian star, who is also a vegetarian. They finally settled down for the current sensation, Madhavan, who fulfilled the expectations of the animal welfare NGO. Moreover, Madhavan is articulate about his ideas and to top it all, is well aware of the cruelties inflicted on the animals and the issues relating to animal welfare. So we have decided to use the services of this film star for our latest `veggie promos' says Jason Baker of PeTA. The campaign mainly educates the consumers on the choices they have with regard to their food, says Baker.
With Madhavan appearing in the promo, the organisation feels that more and more girls and boys will make the switch to vegetarianism and also ensure that the animals are not cruelly treated, PeTA thinks.
One last question Maddy - you were looking very comfortable inside the enclosure. Do you like it?
Not that I like a caged life. Probably you would not have seen my expression. It was a morose look. I don't like to be caged...
The star then disappeared, gone like Tarzan into the woods. Possibly to join Jane at some duet, around the trees in Kollywood.
New posters featuring Madhavan will be ready in a couple of months, possibly during Tamil New Year's day.
