All that glitter
DIAMONDS ARE a woman's best friend. No two things about that, right? Necklaces, bangles, chains, bracelets, rings, exclusive wedding jewellery. All studded with shiny bright diamonds. Little stones they may be, but they sure come for a pile of dough.
While being a woman's best friend, they may not exactly be a man's best friend. Why? He's got to shell out the moolah, that's why. Wondering what's all this about? Well, that was Kirtilal Kalidas, manufacturer, retailer and exporter of diamond-studded and plain-gold jewellery going to town with `Facets in Fashion,' a fashion show, to show off its creations while celebrating its 62nd anniversary and second year in Hyderabad.
People were gulping down sundowners, women seemed to be, rather disinterestedly, sipping their drinks and picking up a bite. The atmosphere was electrifying. It was clear that the women wanted to get their eyeful of the jewellery in the fashion show they had come to witness.
Hyder Mahal at Kakatiya Sheraton here was packed on Sunday evening. There were more guests than were chairs. A sizeable chunk of celebrities comprised the glitterati of tinseltown. Jayaprada, Ramyakrishna, Simran, Meena, Rambha, Mohan Babu, Sai Kumar and more were there.
And just as one cast impatient glances at the watch, the lights dimmed and to the tune of excellent music in the background, VJs Suchitra Pillai and Nikhil Chinnappa, familiar faces on the tube took the centrestage. Thus they vouched: despite advertising in the print media, Kirtilal's believes in publicity by word of mouth and so the fashion show and so on and so forth.
The `Parampara Collection,' of exquisite diamond-studded pieces, hand-crafted gold jewellery, retaining the traditional outlook in floral patters stole the show. And necklaces. Breathtaking they were. Surprisingly, when Nikhil asked the ravishing Rambha about the collection, the dancing star said she wasn't so ga-ga over jewellery. Some romba for thought?! The ever-present T. Subbirami Reddy said now it was the men who were going to be troubled. For, the women would surely make a beeline to Kirtilal's.
And the models went on displaying the bridal collection, of dangling ear-rings and studded necklaces and the grand finale was some fusion music being belted out through speakers. The crowd, while clapping their hands, also tapped their foot to the music, as the models pranced around showing off the jewellery. Truly, the range was in harmony with the crowd and the trends.
