Kathlekhan, a premium coffee
GROWN IN a 184-year-old coffee estate located in one of the remotest forests, its berries handpicked by a tribe that specialises in the profession, and served brewing hot to ignite the neurons, this is what the resume of "Kathlekhan'' reads.
The latest brand of premium coffee to hit the market, "Kathlekhan'' is grown in an estate by the same name. The history of the estate is traced to 1814, when Augustine Co built it. It changed hands seven times, and is now owned by the Amalgamated Bean Coffee Trading Company Limited, the parent company of Cafe Coffee Day. Could we think of a greater sense of history to a brew?
It is said to be a single origin coffee, that is, coffee procured from beans grown in a single location. This gives the coffee a uniformity of flavour and richness, one of the parameters of quality.
"Kathlekhan'' is also bereft of chicory, which only goes on to enrich its purity. Another element of specialisation is that of the people employed to pick the beans, the Lambanis, who are known for their adeptness in that work.
The brand was launched at the recent India International Coffee Festival held in the City. It is available as both beans and powder, and is sold in the company's outlets.
