Krish Srikkanth
KRISHNAMACHARI SRIKKANTH, the "Blood and Thunder Opener'' of world cricket. As all his fans would be aware of.... short and crisp were his innings. When every one gets out off a good ball, he hits it for a six.
Krish Srikkanth was a sensational opening batsman in cricket world. He brought laurels during the 1983 World Cup finals, which was played at Lords in England, where he scored a spectacular 38 runs.
He was the opening batsman with Sunil Gavaskar and was lbw to Malcom Marshal. The shot of the tournament (played in the finals) was the square drive off Andy Roberts. Well... we are not here to give you information you are already familiar with.
Let's take a look at the other side of Srikanth: Srikanth is now more into the small screen with the main purpose of entertaining the viewers. He is also into making tele-serials: "Gautami'' on Etv (Kannada).
Talking about the film world, he says that though the industry is going through a tough time, it is necessary that it flourishes because it teaches values to people. Nowadays, movies with sentimental values are a big hit.
He loves western music apart from classical and he also likes Bharathanatyam. "Culture has a lot of meaning in it. People should understand the inner meaning of culture and try to develop it.''
``Music is what you go in search of at the end of the day especially when you get drained because of your work pressure.'' Travel: "I have been travelling quite a lot when I was a cricketer but now I travel as a pilgrim, going around temples'', he says.
His favourite food: South Indian food, "Rasam'' and "appalam'', to be more precise.
We caught hold of him here at the valedictory function of "Summit", a leadership programme organised by the Rotary Club of Coimbatore Metropolis.
Addressing students on the importance of leadership qualities, he said that what he was today was because of cricket.
This is what he has to say for the youth of the present day:
``A good leader should be positive and should take calculated risks in life if he has to excel in this competitive world.''
