Feel the pulse
If someone is planning to buy a two-wheeler what would be the preference? A scooter or a motorcycle! There appears to be a clear-cut division of opinion among Hyderabadis.
Those on the wrong side of thirty or those who give top priority to the utility of the vehicle obviously prefer scooters.
No prizes for guessing who prefers motorcycles. It's the college-going youth, youngsters, who are already working, and, of course, those who are young at heart.
A look at any city road would surely indicate one thing... the percentage of motorcycles is increasing every day while the share of scooters is coming down.
Some five years ago, the scene on the road has been different. Scooters used to dominate the city roads. Kinetic Honda, the first scooter to have a self-starter mechanism, took the city by storm.
Then came the time of mobikes. The 100 CC revolution overtook the scooter segment and then we have these Suzukis, Kawasakis and Hondas.
With more and more youngsters opting for the motorcycle segment, then came different models of mobikes.
What are essentially the basic models categorised as `economy' segment by the mobike sellers, focus has gradually shifted from the `excellent mileage' to `power and sporty looks'.
The Hyderabadi youth are simply bowled over by the `Splendours' and `Calibres', which are essentially in the `executive segment'.And the latest trend now is the `performance' bikes. The `Eliminators', the `Fieros', the `Victors' and the CBZs are the hot favourites. Though these trendy looking bikes cost more than the other two segments, they have been well received by Hyderabadis.
The latest entry into this segment is the `Pulsar' from the Bajaj stable.
Launched in Hyderabad recently, the Pulsar comes in a two engine capacities.
The 180 CC and the 150 CC. While the 180 CC comes with all additional facilities like disc brakes, electric-start and a host of other features (price Rs. 56,123), the 150 CC version has two models. One comes with electric-start and disc brakes (Rs. 51,107) and the other with disc brakes only (Rs. 47,573).
With the Pulsar making an entry, the vroooms and zooms on Hyderabad roads are sure to increase.
