Endurance record

Feeling comfortable.

IN THE present day, heavy vehicles have very little consideration for two-wheeler riders, especially long distance commuters. It is a real nightmare if one has to think about riding on the National Highways amidst the heavy lorry traffic.

The speed at which these heavy vehicles ply would send shivers down one's spine. Snazzy mobikes are a sensation for youngsters. Zip... Zap and Zoom they ride at full speed especially to impress their friends.

The TVS dealers feel that a two-wheeler is preferable to a luxury car, because a two-wheeler helps the rider experience the surroundings better.

With the twin advantage of power and mileage, TVS presents the Fiero South Indian Trail by Prakruthi N. Banwasi and Yogita Madhu who are all set to connect 33 major cities (4,789 kilometers) in South India within a period of 10 to 11 days, as an endurance record.

The 32-year-old Prakruthi's trademark in inter-city speed riding has made headlines many times over. He rode from Bangalore to Mumbai (1023 kms) seven times in all.

This is what Prakruthi Banwasi, a Law graduate from National Law School, had to say to the media persons: "From Mumbai I reached Bangalore in 12 hours and 30 minutes in 1999, proving that Bangalore to Mumbai in half a day is possible.''

``I wanted Dr. Rajkumar, the Kannada matinee idol to encourage me in my endeavour initially. Though he was reluctant for fear of any untoward happening, he started encouraging me after he was released by Veerappan after abduction.''

``Probably he realised the importance of adventure. Adventure is an attitude. Adventure first, but safety foremost, is what I would like to put across mainly to the youth. For my expedition the costumes, maintenance of the bike and routes were pre-planned.''

``The main aim of the trail is to find a route which is good to be used by everyone. Youth should understand that even at 20 kms per hour, a ride can be a rash, just as a ride at 90 kms per hour can be safe.''

His association with Coimbatore: He did his schooling until Standard III here in Chinmaya Vidyalaya. Though he is not familiar with Tamil language, he loves speaking in Tamil. Yogita Madhu, the navigator, is not only his bike partner but also will be his life partner soon.

His inspiration: His dad. His profile: He runs a conversational language institute called the "Express English Classes''. He is a freelance journalist too.

His latest venture "Bhashaloka'' on Udaya TV on weekdays is now aiding the students to learn English through Kannada. He is also noted for having brought 350 plus eve-teasers to book. His next venture: Around India in 40 days.

The `Karnataka Trail' was a prelude that set the pace for the ''South India Trail''. This was an endurance ride covering all the 28 district headquarters of Karnataka State in a record time of 49 hours and 46 minutes, Prakruthi and his navigator Divya Raghuram were flagged off by Anil Kumble.
