An emotional tale of relationships

Gauri Karnik, Lucky Ali, Pooja Bhatt and Tanuja Chandra in "Sur -- The Melody of Life".

Vikramaditya Singh, a highly acclaimed singer and a music teacher in a reputed school, feels he has not found a single worthy student in his life whom he can teach music. That is till he comes across Tina-Marie, a simple Christian girl, singing the Ave Maria in church.

Completely mesmerised by her divine voice, he takes her as his disciple. Soon, he realises that she requires no training and her growing popularity makes him jealous. He actively sets about creating a situation to effectively break her confidence and succeeds. But his conscience does not spare him and even as Tina becomes a nun, Vikramaditya resolves to make her sing again....

After packing powerful and punchy tales on celluloid like "Dushman'', "Tamanna'' and "Sangarsh'', Pooja Bhatt is once again back with another gripping emotional tale revolving around human relationships. Entitled "Sur -- The Melody of Life'', the film is directed by Tanuja Chandra, who had earlier this year come up with the disastrous "Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar'' produced by Mahesh Bhatt.

``I hope this new film will resurrect the dead career of Tanuja,'' says Mahesh Bhatt, who feels that in spite of it being a disaster, "Yeh Zindagi Ka Safar'' was a good film.

Presented by Fish Eye Network Private Limited -- a production company being run by Pooja Bhatt - "Sur -- The Melody of Life'' has Lucky Ali, son of popular comedian of yesteryears Mehmood, in the lead role. "Mark my word, Lucky Ali is a phenomenal actor,'' says the senior Bhatt, who as a well- wisher of her daughter, hopes that her latest offering is lapped up by the audience. The climax of the film, in fact, has a series of highly dramatic events taking place making the audience wonder whether the melody of life will re-enter the life of the film's protagonist.

Apart from introducing Gauri Karnik who plays the sweet Tina, the rest of the cast of the film is relatively unknown like Simone Singh, Achint Kaur, Ehsaan Khan, Divya Dutta and Harsh Vasisth. "The strength of the film is its storyline and script, besides, of course, its music.''

While the lyrics of the film -- being presented in collaboration with Pritish Nandy Communications -- have been written by Nida Fazli, the music is by M. M. Kareem. "We are in the midst of post-production and hope to be ready with the final product by the end of March,'' says Pooja Bhatt, who plans to have a special screening of the film for the Delhi press in the second week of April.
