Narasimhalu Wadavati
WITH HIM, the instrument is going places, literally. Essentially a Western instrument, the clarinet, sounds so Indian in the hands of Narasimhalu Wadavati that the mesmerised listener would believe it that it has its origins in the country.
A new cassette of the artiste has hit the stands. Released by Lahari, the cassette, titled Mangala Dhwani, is bound to take music lovers to dizzy heights, especially the ones who are hooked to the Hindustani style. For those who have not heard Mr. Wadavati, listening to the new cassette is the best way to taste his music. The audio features Baluma Na Jaavo... in Hamsadhwani, Sawan Samaan Laage in Ahir Bhairav, Hemant Dhun, and Meera Bhajan (Mat Jaavo Jogi) in Bhairavi raag. He is accompanied on the tabla by Vishwanath Nakod, on the swarmandal by Ravi Kumar, and on the tamboora by Raghupathi Poojar. Pt. Narasimhalu Wadavati, who conducts music classes in Bangalore and Raichur, has many a cassette to his credit already. He has brought out cassettes of a jugalbandi with Kadri Gopalnath.Pt. Wadavati mastered the instrument without a guru, and is today one of the leading Hindustani instrumentalists.
