On a winning spree
WITH MERIT in academics no longer the only means to ensure success in life, students have begun to show their worth even in extra-curricular activities.
Take the instance, of the students of the Government Arts College, who recently won the over-all trophy in the various cultural events and variety entertainments that were conducted for 2001-02.
Some of the events that were held included: painting, pencil sketching, rangoli, ad zap, mock press meet and group dance. The competitions were held at the VLB Janakiammal, the Sree Narayana Guru College, the Hindusthan College, the PSG CAS, the SNR & Sons, and the SPCA. The students of this college were also declared runners-up in the events conducted at the Nirmala College for Women, the Ramakrishna College of Science and Commerce, the KSR College of Engineering and Technology, the SNMV CAS and the Kovai Kalaimagal CAS.
S. Kalyanasundaram of I BSc Physics and A. Rajasimhan of II BSc Psychology and P.B Francis of II BSc Physics also won prizes in Tamil debate, mock press and painting competitions.
D. Kamalahasan of III BA Economics won laurels for his participation in the solo dance, mimicry, mono-acting and music competition.
